Spain is the most accessible golf destination in Europe for UK golfers and one of the best suited to a short break. Flights from UK airports into Malaga, Alicante, Barcelona and Palma run year-round, take between two and two and a half hours and connect to some of the best golf infrastructure on the continent. Three nights gives you two full rounds and a travel day each end. Four nights gives you three rounds and time to breathe.
This guide covers the best Spanish destinations for a golf weekend break, which hotels work well for shorter stays, what to realistically expect from a three to four night trip and how to make the most of limited time. For the full range of packages, visit our Spain golf holidays page or browse all golf holidays we offer.
Not every golf destination in Spain suits a short break equally well. The key factors for a weekend trip are different to those for a week-long holiday.
A two-hour flight from a UK regional airport means landing by early afternoon and being on the course the following morning. A long transfer from a distant airport eats significantly into a short trip.
A weekend works best where two or three different courses are within a short drive of each other. Destinations where courses are clustered -- the Costa del Sol, southwest Mallorca, the Costa Blanca south -- give the most flexibility.
Hotels where you can walk to the first tee, eat on site and avoid daily transfers make a three-night trip feel longer and more relaxed. On-site course access is a genuine advantage on a short break.
For short breaks where you have little flexibility around dates, destinations that play well across the full calendar -- the Costa del Sol, Canary Islands, Mallorca -- give more confidence booking months ahead.
Marbella · Mijas · Malaga · Fuengirola · Benalmadena · Sotogrande
The Costa del Sol is the most popular choice for a Spain golf weekend for good reason. More than 70 courses are concentrated along a relatively short stretch of coastline, which means you can play a different layout each day without excessive transfers. Malaga airport is one of the best-connected airports in Spain with direct flights from most UK regional airports year-round.
A three-night weekend typically works as follows: fly Friday afternoon, two rounds Saturday and Sunday, fly home Monday morning. Four nights gives you three rounds and time for an evening in Marbella or along the coast. The winter months -- October through to April -- are peak season for UK golfers precisely because the weather holds up reliably when home conditions do not. See our best Costa del Sol golf holidays guide for the full range of hotels and courses.

View HolidaySon Vida · Palma · Portals Nous · East Coast
Mallorca is a strong short break destination that is often overlooked in favour of the Costa del Sol. The Son Vida estate above Palma puts three courses within walking distance of two good hotels. The island has direct year-round flights from UK airports and a short transfer time from Palma to most golf hotels. A three-night break based at the Sheraton Mallorca Arabella Golf Hotel or Golf Son Vida gives access to Son Vida, Son Muntaner and Son Quint without ever getting in a car.
April and May are the best months for a Mallorca golf weekend -- the courses are at their annual best and the island is well below summer capacity. October is also excellent. For a full breakdown see our complete guide to golf in Mallorca.
Son Vida, Palma

Five-star on the Son Vida estate. Three courses directly accessible and a full spa for rest days.

View HolidayAlicante · Orihuela Costa · Algorfa · Benidorm
Alicante is less heavily visited than Malaga by UK golf groups, which works in your favour on a short break -- course availability tends to be better and the region is quieter. The headline draw is Las Colinas Golf and Country Club near Guardamar, one of the best resort courses in Spain. Staying at Las Colinas Residences on the estate means arrival day transfers are simple and you can be on the course first thing the following morning.
The climate here is among the most reliable in mainland Spain and the southern stretch around Orihuela Costa is a sensible choice for a weekend break booked months in advance. See our best golf holidays on the Costa Blanca for the full hotel and course selection.
Orihuela Costa
Las Colinas Residences

View HolidayGirona · PGA Catalunya · Empordà Golf · Barcelona city
Barcelona and the Costa Brava appeal to a different kind of golf weekend -- one where the city or coastline is as much the draw as the courses. PGA Catalunya near Girona is one of the best golf hotels in Spain with two outstanding courses. A Barcelona-based trip works well for groups who want a Friday evening in the city, two rounds at PGA Catalunya or Emporda Golf on Saturday and Sunday, and a flight home Monday.
Spring and early summer -- April to June -- are the best months for this part of Spain. The north is noticeably less reliable in winter than the south, so for a fixed-date short break this is worth factoring into when you book. See our Costa Brava golf holidays page for the full range.
Girona
Hotel Terraverda at Empordà Golf Resort
Directly on the Empordà Golf Resort near Girona. Ideal spring and autumn weekend base.

View HolidayGran Canaria · Tenerife · Lanzarote
The Canary Islands are the longest flight on this list but worth including because they are the only destination in Spain that works reliably in January and February -- the months when a weekend break is most appealing and when other destinations are least reliable. The extra flight time is the trade-off for near-guaranteed sunshine and playable conditions at any point in the winter.
A four-night break -- fly Thursday evening, three rounds across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, fly home Monday -- works well for those with the flexibility to take a day off mid-week. See our full Ten erife, Gran Canaria or Lanzarote golf guide for hotel and course options across all three islands.
Gran Canaria
Salobre Hotel Resort Serenity
Adjacent to Salobre Golf -- the best course in Gran Canaria. Full resort facilities on site.

Golf del Sur, Tenerife
Grand Muthu Golf Plaza
On the Golf del Sur complex, one of Tenerife's top courses. The best on-site golf access on the island.

Puerto Calero, Lanzarote
Hotel Costa Calero
Near Lanzarote Golf Resort with spa and marina setting. Compact island -- ideal for a short focused break.
View HolidaySotogrande sits at the western end of the Costa del Sol and is worth a specific mention for serious golfers. Valderrama, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande and San Roque are all within a short drive of each other, giving a weekend break a genuinely compelling course itinerary. Inmood San Roque Hotel and SO/ Sotogrande Spa and Golf Resort Hotel are both good bases. Flight time is the same as the Costa del Sol via Malaga airport.
See our Sotogrande golf holidays page for more.
| Destination | Flight Time | Best Months | Best for | Top Hotel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Costa del Sol | ~2 to 2.5 hrs | Oct – Apr | Course variety, all groups, winter breaks | La Cala Resort |
| Mallorca | ~2 to 2.5 hrs | Apr – May, Oct | Self-contained resort golf, couples | Sheraton Arabella |
| Costa Blanca | ~2 to 2.5 hrs | Oct – May | Serious golfers, quieter courses | Las Colinas Residences |
| Costa Brava | ~2 hrs | Apr – Jun, Sep | City break + golf, spring trips | Hotel Terraverda |
| Canary Islands | ~4 hrs | Nov – Apr | Winter sun, Jan & Feb breaks | Salobre Hotel |
| Sotogrande | ~2 to 2.5 hrs | Oct – Apr | Bucket-list courses, serious golfers | SO/ Sotogrande |
The most common format. Fly out Friday afternoon or evening, play Saturday and Sunday, fly home Monday morning. Two rounds and one evening to explore the destination. Works best with a self-contained resort hotel where logistics are minimal and you are not spending time on transfers between hotel and course each morning.
Gives you three rounds and a rest day, or two rounds and more time to explore the destination. Recommended for groups who want to play three different courses, use the hotel spa or add a day trip. The Canary Islands particularly benefit from a four-night format given the longer flight.
Peak months on the Costa del Sol (October to April) and Mallorca (April, May, October) fill quickly, particularly at weekends. Popular courses at La Cala, Las Colinas, PGA Catalunya and Pula can have limited availability at short notice. Our team handles tee time bookings as part of the package, which is particularly useful for short breaks where every slot matters.
Tuesday to Friday or Wednesday to Saturday gives better flight pricing and significantly better tee time availability at most courses. If your group has flexibility, mid-week consistently delivers more for the same budget and the courses feel noticeably quieter.
If you are open to destinations beyond Spain, two short-haul options are worth mentioning alongside.
Flight time to Faro is around 2.5 hours from most UK airports. The Algarve has more than 40 courses and the infrastructure is very well suited to short visits -- several hotels sit directly on courses, transfers are short and the region plays well from October through to May. Vilamoura in particular is one of the most convenient golf resort areas in Europe for a weekend break.
Algarve golf holidays guide ›Flight time to Marrakech from UK airports is around 3.5 hours and the city has a strong concentration of courses alongside one of the most interesting non-golf environments in North Africa. A four-night break works particularly well -- two or three rounds at courses like Royal Golf Marrakech or Amelkis, with a day in the medina for non-golfing partners. Winter and spring are the best months.
Best Marrakech golf hotels ›A three-night break (Friday to Monday) comfortably fits two rounds -- one on Saturday and one on Sunday -- with time for travel each day. A four-night break gives you three rounds without feeling rushed. If you choose a hotel with an on-site course, you can often fit an extra round on the arrival or departure day.
The Costa del Sol is the most reliable choice for a winter weekend break, with playable temperatures from October through to April. The Canary Islands are the best option specifically for January and February -- they offer the most consistent winter conditions of any Spanish destination. The Costa Blanca around Alicante is also a strong winter choice with excellent sunshine hours year-round.
The Costa Brava near Barcelona is the most practical mainland destination for a summer golf weekend, as temperatures are more manageable than the south. The Canary Islands are also fully playable in summer. The Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca are best avoided in July and August unless you are prepared to play very early morning rounds only.
For peak months -- October to April on the Costa del Sol and Mallorca -- booking two to three months in advance is advisable, particularly for weekends. Popular resort courses at La Cala, PGA Catalunya and Las Colinas can fill at short notice. Our team can advise on availability and secure tee times as part of your package.
